Singing from the Soul
Sound. Soul. The convergence of the two. Passion, communication, expression. Music and singing to me is all this, and so much more ~
I began singing when I was a child. I wanted to so badly, and I started in church. Before we had a formal ministry, my friend Dean and I did all the services in our local church. It was a precious experience. I did a lot of competition choral festivals in high school, up to All Easterns. Amazing learning and experiences.
I went to college for Musical Theatre with a voice performance major emphasis. I learned so much at Shenandoah, and I will be forever grateful for my teachers. I did regional theatre, touring children’s theatre, dinner theatres. I love the ability of the arts to open people, to feel, to see another viewpoint, to learn, to experience…….
I also loved singing weddings, various churches and services. When I get into healing and bodywork, I somehow lost the thread of singing and performing, or did for the most part. It was something I greatly missed ~
When I got diagnosed with cancer, I felt like I lost everything. And the hardest was, for mainly the 5 years post major treatment, the effects of Tamoxifen on my voice. It hurt to sing, to speak. While I knew God was calling me inward, it hurt. People actually yelled at me to sing, my voice was a gift from God. I felt such frustration, I WANTED to SING!
For many medical reasons, I chose to go off of that drug after taking it for 5 years. I’m grateful for the part I’m sure it has played in me staying alive. And I have to be honest ~ grateful that going off of it has helped my voice.
I learned to connect to my heart in different ways, a journey that will continue to deepen as life moves on. I feel a desire to sing and share energy, passion, life, and healing in different ways. Theatre may come back ~ I’m open to how God guides. I’m also starting to write originals, sing spiritual songs from various traditions. I love to share light, hope, passion, honest emotional journeys even in darkness, through song. Various projects and explorations into sound and healing are emerging.
Stay posted. Many new experiences of sound and healing are to come 😉
I hope to see you at a concert, performance, on a healing call that uses sound and art, a playshop, class, healing session or lesson of some sort ~ sometime in the very near future. Look to the calendar and blog for information.
Every blessing to you. And, please ~ sing from and of your soul, in every way, in your life. All we have, all we know, is today. So, please, let your life be a song. I’m here to share inspiration and healing for that journey ~ contact me.
